Faculty & Personal Development - 2017
Faculty Development - Best practices in online Discussion
Throughout the year, faculty members are able to take hour long training sessions through the school. Michael Calendine lead the one titled “Best Practices in Online Discussions”. In this training, we discussed how to keep students engaged in the classroom within the discussion panels. As faculty members, we were encouraged to lead with an encouraging statement, provide constructive criticism, and a clear path for improvement. We also encouraged students to do the same when responding to their peers.
Faculty Development - GRADEBOOK
Throughout the year, faculty members are able to take hour long training sessions through the school. Michael Calendine lead the one titled “Gradebook”. In this training, we discussed how to ensure students are actually reading, reviewing, and retaining the feedback given to them. A lot of the feedback is centered around the gradebook. In this training session, we discussed tips to ensure students understood their feedback.
Faculty Development - 12 @ 12 Training Session
A new option to earn Faculty Development began this year; the “FTC 12@12” series. Once a week, different faculty members would lead a short 15 minute training session. These brief meetings allowed full-time and adjunct faculty members to come together to discuss different topics, which may range from any changes or updates that occurred that week to general teaching methods.
Faculty Development - virtual faculty conference
In the fall of 2017, I attended the Virtual Faculty Conference; two days of educational learning for faculty members. The topics of the conference varied: Mindful Mobile Photography, Volunteering: What We Can do to Get Back to our Commitments, the Faculty Titling Process, the Pinnacle Project, the yearly Faculty Art Show, and how to balance and maintain inspiration as online instructors.

As a photographer, I enjoy taking online webinars on how I can improve my online presence via SEO (Search Engine Optimization). This year, Two Bright Lights - an online resource for publishing images - hosted a webinar on this topic. The benefits of using social media to promote one’s business was also discussed.
